San Diego got a dose of Marie!

My last few days of spring break were spent in San Diego! I have never traveled to this part of California and took a train ride along the coast to get there. My aunt, uncle and two cousins were there while my uncle had a convention/meetings to attend. They invited me to tag alone and hang out with them at their hotel and explore. Of course I said yes! Vacationing with my aunt involves a lot of good eating, drinking and shopping. Which we did!

DAY 1

I arrived in San Diego in the late afternoon, we stayed at the Hilton Bayfront hotel. It was BEAUTIFUL, our room was on the 30th floor, overlooking the bay.

We quickly walked to San Diego’s Little Italy and explored. It was such a fun little town. I am basically 100% Italian so it was nice to finally be around some true Italian culture since moving to LA. We had reservations at this Italian restaurant Bencotto. The restaurant was amazing, they served all homemade pasta and everything was made from scratch. I ordered homemade black squid ink gnocchi with lobster bisque sauce with shrimp.

DAY 2

The second day of my trip we went for breakfast and walked around the Gaslamp Quarter. It is filled with restaurants, shops and art galleries. After we took a 2 hour boat tour. It was so nice to be out on the water and see how beautiful San Diego is.

After we took the boat tour we got ready for dinner. We had reservations at the new restaurant Juniper and Ivy. My aunt and cousin are huge fans of  the show top chef and the winner Richard Blais opened this restaurant. We got to talk with the chef, Richard Blais, himself and he even gave us a private tour of this kitchen. The food was amazing and was one of my favorite meals of all time.

Day 3

The third day we went shopping and laid out by the pool the rest of the day. The pool was crowded but it was nice to finally be laying out in the warm sun.

Day 4

The fourth day was my last day! It was so much fun to see my family and I had such a fun time. I took a train in the afternoon and back to LA I went.

Obsession #3.

This post involves two trends that I have been liking, harem pants and cropped tops.

When people think of harem pants you think of, the baggy, slouchy trousers tapered at the ankles? Images of Aladdin and MC Hammer then pop up in your head? Well the harem pant is the go-to statement piece. After witnessing many FIDM students sport these pants with such confidence and ease, I had to try the trend. This effortless beach/boho vibe just screams comfortable.

While wearing these pants balance the silhouette with a form fitting top in a solid color and slip on sandals or heels. A higher heel will lengthen the look and make it more formal for a night out; wedges or booties look great too!

Image

While shopping for this trend I came across a crop top, which is a trend I normally don’t wear. For years I have kept wishing and wanting crop tops to go out of style. The new way to style a crop top is to just show a small bit of skin, Kim Kardashian rocks this trend.

Image

After trying on this crop top I figured why not, and paired it with my new harem pants.

This is my new favorite “going out” look, and I recommend everyone try this trend.

Obession 2.

I am loving the over-the-knee sock trend. I was hesitant about this trend, but styled right it can flatter anyone. This trend has always been around but has never been that popular. Knee high socks go great with boots, heels and even sneakers, depending on the outfit. Several types of dresses and skirts can make the perfect outfit. Staying comfy with just a little thigh showing is enough to having a sexy, but cute and classy look all in one.

I was inspired by this simple styling trick/overall look, and I created my own.

Now is the time to try this trend! Confidence is key. Show all those people just how fashionable you can be.

Its been awhile…

So first off, I want to apologize for not posting in awhile 😦

I have been SO busy since I last posted, which was November. So I am going to catch you all up so you can be in the loop!

I went back to Chicago for Thanksgiving and happily finished my 2nd quarter with all A’s and one B. I then went home for Christmas/winter break. During my break I spent time with my family and close friends. I tried to stay warm when the temperature was -40 degrees. YES that’s right -40 degrees I wanted to cry, but my tears would freeze.

Break quickly ended and I then started my 3rd quarter at FIDM. The quarter went by slow at first and then quickly ended. I took many fun classes such as Fabric ID, Trends and Fashion Forecasting, and CAD, which I have a hate/love relationship with. I also had the opportunity to take on an internship. I currently intern at the Daniel Rainn showroom, it has been such a fun opportunity to see the wholesale side of the fashion industry. Lastly, I had the opportunity to attend MAGIC in Las Vegas. I got tickets through my school since I am apart of the Premier Product Development Group. There I got to see all the upcoming lines for spring/summer ’14, went to fashion shows and seminars. Between that and school I have been very busy! I ended the quarter/my first year with straight A’s which I am very proud of!

Currently I am on spring break and will start school again on April 10th. I was selected to intern for another company with their product development team so I am excited to begin that internship when I start the quarter!

Here are some pictures from my 2nd and 3rd quarter!

Happiness.

“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re 17 and planning for ‘someday’. And then quietly and without really realizing it, ‘someday’ is today. And then ‘someday’ is yesterday. And this is your life.”

Often times we lay awake at night. We lay with our minds running wild, running lists in our head, ideas, places, and events we wish would occur.

Many even think that maybe in the future we will reach that goal of what we truly want in life. For most of us these ideas, perceptions we feel and want are our distant ideas of happiness. We feel that once we do a certain thing in our life, or certain things, we can finally be happy. We think of things in the future that can ultimately make us happy, that can make us believe that one day we will be happy.

What people forget and don’t realize is that often times we don’t cherish the moments standing right in front of us, whether they be good or bad. We just keep our eyes and hearts moving forward by wanting and wishing for that day to feel truly happy. Wishing, ambition, goals are good, and wanting to reach that happiness is good.

But remember…

happiness is not a destination, it is an emotion. When will we realize that happiness is a simple emotion that we feel, not a destination we must reach.

“It doesn’t matter how you plan it. It doesn’t matter how you envision it. Without even knowing it, sometimes life has a way of finding you…with exactly what you need. Or exactly who you need.”

Just a thought.

Obsession.

I am loving that the ’90s grunge trend is back! I personally love this style and how effortless it looks. You can dress it up with some leather pants/shorts with tights, or you can wear some Doc Martens and a beanie for a more casual look.

Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson, managed to make the trend work in no time. They pulled off this trend with one simple styling trick from the era: tying a flannel shirt around the waist.

Image

I was inspired by this simple styling trick/overall look, and I created my own. I wore ballet flats instead of combat boots to give it a preppy twist and make it more my style.

The grunge trend is essential for fall and will follow through summer, so make sure you go buy that vintage flannel and Doc Martens, before the trend fades.
