Obsession #5

As I said in my last post, I have done a lot of summer shopping. Nordstrom had a huge sale these past few weekends and I took advantage of that. From shopping and going to FIDM, I am always noticing new trends and trying to incorporate them into my wardrobe. I have been obsessed with the knit sweater sleeveless crop top, and I have seen tons of celebrities and students at my school wearing them. I love the look and high neckline, along with how cute they look on. The 90’s is making a comeback and I love it!

Obsession #4

Hellooooo alll,

I have some exciting news!!

1. I am almost done with my fourth quarter at FIDM.

2. Summer break is just around the corner. This means more obsession/outfit posts and whatever else I feel like posting.

3. I have recently bought SOOO many new clothes and I can not wait to post them!!

School this quarter has been VERY crazy. I have been so busy with projects, homework and learning stupid photoshop. Also, I have been applying for various internships, so keep your fingers crossed!! I also have exciting plans this summer, I will be taking a trip to NY. There I am going to tour FIT and of course explore the city. I promise to document everything and post all about it. I am looking into going to FIT for my bachelors after FIDM, since I will only have my associates degree.

Anyways, on to my latest obsession!

The overized coat trend, is a trend we saw appear in winter, and is making its way through spring/summer. This trend is also known as “The man coat”. The oversized coat is shapeless and straight through the back and torso but it is structured on the shoulder and hip. However, do not mistaken “oversized” for poor fitting this is where the challenge is. An oversized coat has to look intentional, fashion forward and drape in just the right way. Basically, all of the Kardashians have been rocking this trend. Love them or hate them, they know how to wear this trend perfectly.

Below is my version of the trend. I found my oversized coat at Nordstrom Rack. I had to get it because it was the very last one, it was my size, and most importantly it was originally $150 and I bought it for $16. Any fashionista would not pass that up!!

Obsession #3.

This post involves two trends that I have been liking, harem pants and cropped tops.

When people think of harem pants you think of, the baggy, slouchy trousers tapered at the ankles? Images of Aladdin and MC Hammer then pop up in your head? Well the harem pant is the go-to statement piece. After witnessing many FIDM students sport these pants with such confidence and ease, I had to try the trend. This effortless beach/boho vibe just screams comfortable.

While wearing these pants balance the silhouette with a form fitting top in a solid color and slip on sandals or heels. A higher heel will lengthen the look and make it more formal for a night out; wedges or booties look great too!

While shopping for this trend I came across a crop top, which is a trend I normally don’t wear. For years I have kept wishing and wanting crop tops to go out of style. The new way to style a crop top is to just show a small bit of skin, Kim Kardashian rocks this trend.

After trying on this crop top I figured why not, and paired it with my new harem pants.

This is my new favorite “going out” look, and I recommend everyone try this trend.

Obession 2.

I am loving the over-the-knee sock trend. I was hesitant about this trend, but styled right it can flatter anyone. This trend has always been around but has never been that popular. Knee high socks go great with boots, heels and even sneakers, depending on the outfit. Several types of dresses and skirts can make the perfect outfit. Staying comfy with just a little thigh showing is enough to having a sexy, but cute and classy look all in one.

I was inspired by this simple styling trick/overall look, and I created my own.

Now is the time to try this trend! Confidence is key. Show all those people just how fashionable you can be.

Its been awhile…

So first off, I want to apologize for not posting in awhile 😦

I have been SO busy since I last posted, which was November. So I am going to catch you all up so you can be in the loop!

I went back to Chicago for Thanksgiving and happily finished my 2nd quarter with all A’s and one B. I then went home for Christmas/winter break. During my break I spent time with my family and close friends. I tried to stay warm when the temperature was -40 degrees. YES that’s right -40 degrees I wanted to cry, but my tears would freeze.

Break quickly ended and I then started my 3rd quarter at FIDM. The quarter went by slow at first and then quickly ended. I took many fun classes such as Fabric ID, Trends and Fashion Forecasting, and CAD, which I have a hate/love relationship with. I also had the opportunity to take on an internship. I currently intern at the Daniel Rainn showroom, it has been such a fun opportunity to see the wholesale side of the fashion industry. Lastly, I had the opportunity to attend MAGIC in Las Vegas. I got tickets through my school since I am apart of the Premier Product Development Group. There I got to see all the upcoming lines for spring/summer ’14, went to fashion shows and seminars. Between that and school I have been very busy! I ended the quarter/my first year with straight A’s which I am very proud of!

Currently I am on spring break and will start school again on April 10th. I was selected to intern for another company with their product development team so I am excited to begin that internship when I start the quarter!

Here are some pictures from my 2nd and 3rd quarter!

Obsession.

I am loving that the ’90s grunge trend is back! I personally love this style and how effortless it looks. You can dress it up with some leather pants/shorts with tights, or you can wear some Doc Martens and a beanie for a more casual look.

Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson, managed to make the trend work in no time. They pulled off this trend with one simple styling trick from the era: tying a flannel shirt around the waist.

I was inspired by this simple styling trick/overall look, and I created my own. I wore ballet flats instead of combat boots to give it a preppy twist and make it more my style.

The grunge trend is essential for fall and will follow through summer, so make sure you go buy that vintage flannel and Doc Martens, before the trend fades.
